History of anabolics

Anabolics, commonly known anabolic steroids, are the steroids that are technically known as anabolic-androgenic steroids and are commonly referred to as AAS. These powerful forms of drugs have the effects of the dihydrotestosterone and testosterone in the body of a person. Anabolics synthesizes of protein within the cells of the body, and they buildup of the cellular tissues, which are the especially important for muscles. These are the steroids, which also play their part through the androgenic and virilizing properties, and through that way, they play an effective part in the maintenance and development of the masculine related characteristics in the males like testicles, vocal cords and body hair growth.

Anabolics or anabolic steroids are the ones first isolated, synthesized and identified in the decade of 1930s, and after that, they are constantly being used in the medicine for the appetite and bone growth. They also help greatly in the treatment of cancer and aids. Studies have shown that AAS can contribute hugely in the increase of the body weight and you can achieve the muscular strength through the exercise of relatively high intensity indeed.

Health Risks Associated With Anabolics

Often it is felt that the huge health risks are involved if you use anabolic steroids for your long-term use. Doses of anabolic steroids must be taken with great care to avoid any kind of complications or issues. Some effects of the improper anabolic steroids are the high or low changes in the cholesterol level, acne of many forms, damage of the liver, blood pressure in high quantity.  Anabolics can also play a huge part in the hormonal balances like the diseases namely gynecomastia and the testicular atrophy, which is also a dangerous side effect of anabolics.

Use of Anabolics in Sports

Sometimes, anabolics are used in sports including bodybuilding and fast-paced sport like racing; however, their use is very controversial and prohibited at times because they can have very adverse effects and they can help the sports person to gain advantage by unfair means and this issue is normally considered as cheating. Normally, this issue is called as doping and the governing authorities of the sports have banned this. AAS is regarded as the substance, which is the mostly detected one in the laboratories.

History of Anabolics

The natural occurring anabolic hormone namely testosterone has the chemical structure as 17β-hydroxy-4-androsten-3-one.

Gonadal Anabolic Androgenic Steroids Isolation

The identification of the gonadal steroids is done and their use became common. It is believed that medically extraction of testicle starts during the nineteenth century. At that time, the effects of the anabolics were being studied and researches were being done. Adolf Buthenandt is a chemist in the Marburg who has credit of purifying the androstenone in 1931, which is the male hormone nearly about 15 milligrams from thousands of liters of urine. Then a chemist namely Leopald Ruzicka synthesized the steroid in 1934.

During the 19 century, it was a known fact that the testes have androgen, which is a more powerful substance as compared to androstenone, and a group of scientists found it. Human clinical trials and experiments started in the 1937, which includes both the oral doses such as methyltestosterone as well as the injection such as testosterone propionate. According to the physician of Hitler, he was given the treatment by injecting testosterone in his body for the treatment of various kinds of ailments.

Synthetic Anabolics Development

When you talk about the chemical nature of the anabolics that are being synthetically developed, it is methandrostenolone, and its chemical structure is 17α-Methylation and it has the capability to enhance the oral bioavailability. It was found in 1940s that the testosterone has the muscle building abilities. The users of this drug are normally the bodybuilders and the weight lifters and they used it in their off times. However, it is advisable to use this drug in small amounts to avoid any kind of ban or complication.

Normally, the modifications in testosterone to multitude of AAS are done in three ways containing the alkylation phenomena of the 17-alpha position in the ethyl or methyl in to the orally compound through active nature, the other one if the esterification of the testosterone and nortestosterone which is at the 17-beta position. This is the phenomena, which is administered and is more effective because agents present in the body. The other way is to alter the structure of the ring that helps in obtaining androgenic to anabolic ratios effectively.

Major Routes of Administration of Anabolics

Anabolics are commonly administered in four ways or forms and these forms include the injectables, pills taken orally, creams and gels are used for applying tropically and skin patches. Among all these ways, the oral one is most convenient and is commonly used. However, it is a fact that the testosterone administered by the mouth is absorbed fast, and it gets itself converted in to the form of inactive metabolites and then you will only find a minute amount in the active form.  Testosterone has its other way of administration and that is parenterally, but the disadvantage in this technique is that its absorption time in very long and irregular as well. The steroids given in the injection form are given in the muscle and not in the vein. This is done to avoid any kind of changes that are sudden and can make effect on the bloodstream. Intravenous injection can cause clot in the blood stream and that is the reason it is very dangerous and avoided.

Studies have proved that the administration routes do not have much different effects and the efficiency of the drug almost remains constant. Anabolic properties will keep similar even though the difference like first pass metabolism can arise. However, special care must be done because a high oral dose can cause liver damage to some extent.
