Norditropin® FlexPro® is Novo Nordisk’s brand of somatropin, supplied in a prefilled pen. The 15 mg pen is the green one in the range, with 5 mg, 10 mg, 15 mg and 30 mg versions available. In the Novo Nordisk leaflet, 1 mg of somatropin is equal to 3 IU, so this pen holds 45 IU. Doctors prescribe Norditropin to children with growth failure from growth hormone deficiency, short stature linked to Turner or Noonan syndrome, and other growth conditions, and to adults with growth hormone deficiency. The pen is for a single patient, and it can’t be refilled or shared. Growth hormone is also discussed in sports and anti-aging circles, but that use isn’t approved.

Composition

Norditropin® FlexPro® is recombinant human growth hormone, a protein that matches the natural hormone and is made in E. coli bacteria. Unlike powder products, it’s a clear, colorless liquid that’s ready to inject. Each mL contains 10 mg of somatropin, and the pen holds 1.5 mL. It’s given under the skin, using a thin disposable needle. Unused pens need to be kept in the fridge and away from light.

Important Safety Information

Contraindications: Do not use it during acute critical illness, with an active cancer, with active proliferative or severe non-proliferative diabetic eye disease, or with a known allergy to somatropin or its ingredients. It should not be used in children whose growth plates have closed. In Prader-Willi syndrome, it should not be used in people with severe obesity or severe breathing problems.

Serious Risks: High blood sugar and diabetes, increased skull pressure, hip and spine problems in children, pancreatitis, and concerns about tumor growth in people with a history of cancer.
Single-Patient Pen: Each pen is for one person only. It must never be shared, even if the needle is changed.
Storage: Unused pens should be kept in a fridge at 2°C to 8°C and not frozen. After the first use, a pen can stay in the fridge for up to 4 weeks, or at room temperature for up to 3 weeks.
Medical Supervision: Norditropin is a prescription medicine. A doctor should guide its use, with regular checks of growth, blood sugar, thyroid function and IGF-1.
